Making Indiana University: A Reading, Conversation, and Signing with Jim Capshew

Thursday, April 23, 2026

Blending institutional and environmental history, Making Indiana University: History, Landscape, and a Sense of Place traces how the university’s identity has been shaped—materially and imaginatively—by Dunn’s Woods, the evolving campus landscape, and the narratives through which generations have understood this place.

In a setting central to IU’s early history, author Jim Capshew will introduce the book, read from it, and take questions from the audience. The event will be introduced by John Summerlot, Director of Enterprise Risk & Incident Management at the IU Foundation. It will conclude with a signing of a specially produced booklet featuring the Wylie House chapter, along with commemorative image cards drawn from the volume. Following the program, guests are invited to enjoy a self-guided tour of the Wylie House.
