I was a first or second year grad student when Ron was hired. One memory that comes back to me is his recruitment talk. After his talk, Michael Scriven turned to the grad students, and told us not to bother asking any questions, because this was a recruitment talk and the faculty intended to rake poor Ron over the proverbial coals with their questions. I completely forget the details, but obviously Ron survived the ordeal well enough to be hired. I do not recall taking any seminars with him, but I do recall several conversations with him regarding my dissertation. Even though the quantum theory was not his specialty, his questions caused me to explain some things with greater clarity than would otherwise have been the case.
Departmental parties were frequent back in the sixties, and I enjoyed very much conversing with him under less than formal conditions.
