  • Congratulations to Professors William Newman and Jutta Schickore on their Mellon Foundation Sawyer Seminar!

Congratulations to Professors William Newman and Jutta Schickore on their Mellon Foundation Sawyer Seminar!

Monday, March 8, 2021

William Newman and Jutta Schickore have brought a prestigious Sawyer Seminar to the Indiana University History and Philosophy of Science and Medicine Department. Sawyer Seminars are temporary research institutes, which bring together scholars of diverse backgrounds to analyze a topic of common interest. The current seminar, attended by researchers from top universities in the Midwest (and beyond), examines philosophical and historical dimensions of scientific “rigor.”  Further congratulations go out to Claudia Cristalli who is participating as a Mellon postdoctoral fellow and HPSC graduate students Evan Arnet and Jared Neumann who are participating as graduate fellows. The Seminar is ongoing and will continue into the 2021-2022 academic year.

We will update as soon as possible with Sawyer Seminar affiliated events, including talks by leading scholars, a primary source reading group, and conferences dedicated to the topic of scientific rigor.

This Sawyer Seminar is funded by the Mellon Foundation
