Professor Fred Churchill

To honor the late Fred Churchill and his courses on the history of biology, IU alumnus Michael Kowalski has donated a small collection of autographs and letters of 19th-century figures connected to Darwin’s work. Besides Darwin, figures include Richard Owen, Charles Lyell, Rev. Samuel Wilberforce, Adam Sedgwick, John Henslow, Robert Fitzroy, Thomas Huxley, Ernst Haeckel, Asa Gray, John Lubbock, Joseph Dalton Hooker. The items will be deposited at the Lilly Library. The research on the scientific and social life such figures represent remains alive in the Department.
